  • "Colin's" Leg---90s kids tv British. Probably NOT Colin's leg

Teatime after school. Some not well off kid finds a false leg and someone has stashed money or gems in it and want it back. Mini series. he basically won't return it. I know. Half my childhood was badly remembered. I must be the youngest dementia sufferer in existence.

I think it's Colin's leg but no luck. Tried COPILOT and he suggested GARRY'S LEG a substory of MURPHY'S MOB. I don't think so. That AI hallucinates a lot. Pretty sure it was ITV.

Any notions? The kid in question had short red hair btw. Not seen him in anything since. Which is normal.

There was a show in around the late 80s called 'Henry's Leg' - not sure if that's related?

I thought that it was Henry's Leg as well - it was set in the fictional town of Midford and Courtney Roper-Knight played the title role of 11-year-old Henry Hooper (not Cooper!). His bedroom was called Midford Tip. Despite Courtney usually being a girls' name, it was definately a boy who appeared in the show! The young actor appeared in quite a few shows in the latter half of the 1980s including the Dramarama episode Pig Ignorance; the ill-fated Hardwicke House; Vanity Fair; and two episodes of The Bill, three years apart, where was credited stereotypically as "Youth" and "Teenager".

I do remember one episode where this sinister man said to Henry: "Are you going to get me that leg, or will I make you?" The leg was kept under Henry's bed or stored away seceratly and had money or jewels inside it, I assume?

I thought it was made by Central but it was actually made by TVS and was shown on twice weekly (very unusal at the time) on both Mondays and Thursdays in the autumn of 1986 in the 4.45 pm Children's ITV slot. It was repeated in the same slot in 1990, which is where my memory of it comes from. Of course, the "Colin" name was probably something like Colin's Sandwich or something like that?

Radio 4 also transmitted a radio adaptation also called Henry's leg around Christmas 1998 and was repeated in August 2001. By the way, his bedroom was called Midford Tip because of how messy and untidy it was according to Henry's mother.

Ann Pilling wrote the book it was based on in 1985.

THAT'S THE BLIGHTER! That was an easy one, then? Or did you try every male name with LEG?

My first thought was Simon's Leg, but then I thought maybe SIMON AND THE WITCH might have infected the engram. I knew it was a name that has become unpopular.

To be fair, they do say "break a leg" to actors!

And looking at the IMDB, I am reminded of THE BLOB! Yes, that was the sinister man which I previously referred to. Nothing to do with Mr Blobby, I am afraid.
