Yet ANOTHER TV show I need a Name For ----weird people on an island

Pretty sure it was British: you'll see why.
It was on TV in the mid 80s. It involved a small gang of young people travelling around Britain and finding a part of the land that is normally cut off from the surrounding land by water. The stranded people were culturally backwards by hundreds of years. Still wearing the old style of clothes. There was antagonism with the backwards people and the small gang, who arrived in a jeep or range rover. The vehicle was seen as a monster by the backwards people. And was used to scare them when they attacked. I would say the era the backward people stuck in would be around the time of the witch trials.

Please help me with the lost piece of jigsaw brain.

The only thing I can think of is Stig Of The Dump, but that was more down a quarry.

It rings a bell - was this on in the post-World of Sport / Robin of Sherwood sort of slot of 5.30 pm on ITV on Saturdays during the spring and summer mlonths, circa 1985-1986? I think that there was a series called Return to Treasure Island or something like that.

Our teacher read Stig of the Dump to us at storytime circa 1987. In SOTD I noticed in the series that Barney is wearing Lee jeans a la Hart Bochner's character in the Supergirl film.

It was probably before ROBIN OF SHERWOOD's time. With my terrible memory it may have been late seventies! I was born 1973 and I recalled THE TOMORROW PEOPLE which was on from 73 to 79. Wasn't RETURN TO TREASURE ISLAND if you mean the Brian Blessed series that the net threw up.

Deffo wasn't STIG OF THE DUMP! LOL. I recall how miserable the final scenes of that show were. Stig just some lad on a trash heap. Barney calling to him. Will to live, people! Will to live!

If it was 1970s then it was before my time as well. Sounds as if HTV made the series if it was shown on ITV.
