oh yes without a doubt i agree with you on tales of the unexpected.
even to this day when i hear that tune it still sends shivers up my spine.

for as long as i have heard that tune it has frightened me.

the bullseye one cant say that affected me.
although i can see how the bull would scare you.

Also, the theme that did then and still does now, give me the absolute screaming creeps is the theme to Bullseye. I. Hate. That. So. Much. Every time that bloody bull mooed it used to put the frighteners on me, it was even worse when it just appeared on the screen, lunged forward toward the screen and mooed, it was really like it was trying to get me. I had nightmares about that thing for years! I would bannish that away for good if I had the chance.

Loved The Tomorrow People and today I think the latest Dr Who theme is excellent.

Back when I was a kid it was Armchair Thriller that used to spook me out. I'd make sure I was out of the room and upstairs in bed before that started otherwise I wouldn't shift from the room without taking my older brother with me. The Tales of the Unexpected was ok-ish but the real downer of that was I started to watch it on Sunday evenings and when it finished it meant lights and school next day. That thought was probably more scarey to me than the programme.

    Hi,
Don't know if this one has been mentioned, the theme from the 1978 adaptation of RL Stephenson's "Kidnapped", which starred David McCallum:

That's one that has stayed in my memory!

"The World at War" theme used to spook me out as a kid even though I loved the series. It was composed by the late Carl Davis. Another one of his themes that I found poignantly haunting was the theme for "Hollywood: A Celebration of the American Silent Film" which was produced by Thames in 1980.

Apart from 'children of the stones' or 'poldark' that has been previously mentioned, for me it would have to be this one......

I would have to go for : Dr Who, Day of the Triffids (80s), and Mysterious Cities of Gold!

Don't laugh but I also found the theme from the boy from space to be quite moving! Not haunting though.

I have to admit.... when it comes to 'haunting' songs, I tend to think of ones that haunt me... as i remember the times when as a child the tunes would be playing on the tv.
One of those, which I have on the computer now (natch) and listen to every once in a while is the closing theme to 'Monkey!', the song 'Gandhara' by Godiego.
It's a beautiful song, in itself... But never (and I do mean never) fails to make every hair on the back of my neck stand on end..
Just the memories of the family in front of the tv, everyone pulling miniature staffs out of our ears and trying to conjur up a cloud to fly on!
