I used to like 999, some of the emergencies could be scary but it was interesting to see how people were rescued.

I remember a stuntman died while filming one where someone fell down a ladder on a section of TV transmitter.

Doctor Who, starring John Pertwee. The music and starting credits use to scare me.
I recall watching Picturebox at school on tv that was wheeled into the class.

It's been mentioned before but the title music to the Brian Clemens 'Thriller' anthology series from the mid-70s is rather eerie.

    Some haunting title music:

    Journey to the Unknown
    Timeslip
    Doomwatch
Ghost Story (US series from 1972)
    Escape into Night
    Harry's Game

All from the 1970s, the opening music from these programmes gave me the creeps. But I enjoyed the programmes.

TOTU always looked scary, but then it was on after the watershed and was not for kids - and it had rather sinister storylines. Ironic that Roald Dahl, who was obviously famous as a children's author, was the main writer originally.

The opening titles of Bullseye just before the Bowen version was axed in 1995 was scary in comparison - the Bully cartoon character doing a "Roger Rabbit" and climbing down the steps, hugging Bowen and trashing the star prize.

The theme tune to Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious World still gives me goosebumps to this day. There's just something uneasy about it.
