  • comedy footie series

    All I remember about this was..

    a]the catchphrase used by the not-very-bright male lead of this comedy series - 'Knockout, magic, over the moon' - He said it whever interviewed by the media.

    and
    b]The club manager wanted his team to play COSMIC FOOTBALL

    Think it was late 70's or early 80's

    Anyone help please ?

    I can only think of two possible candidates off hand;

    Jossy's Giants

    YouTube - Jossy's Giants

    ...though that was 1987

    Or Striker, starring Kevin Moreton. That was 1970s but I'm afraid I can't find a link. Still looking

        I really liked Jossy's Giants, something on my Would like to get on DVD list.

        In the 1990s there was Athletico Patrick & A Prince Among Men.

        In the early 1980s John Sullivan wrote a one-off comedy drama about a sunday league team, hoping it would become a series, but the BBC turned it down at the last minute because they already had a sporting series.

        As they had a gap in the schedule they accepted some idea of his about a market trader & his brother & grandad, & the rest is history.

              Nope Sorry ,been looking through these suggestions and they're not it.

              I was thinking last night and he played a striker called Terry Prince who was always getting into bother with some kind of oil sheik who wanted to buy the football club

              Just can't get a picture into my head - that would help

                    It's interesting that 2 of these had a lead character with the surname prince.
