Anyone remember a one-off play about a family who didn't want their neighbours to know they couldn't afford a holiday, so they pretended they'd gone away and had a kind of make-believe holiday in their cellar instead? Set it all up with sun lamps, deckchairs, paddling pool, etc and stayed down there for the full two weeks. Must have been in the Seventies.

This sounds like one of those sidereal moments in The Young Ones (the episode Oil, seems to spoff this), which don't have much to do with anything else.

That's the one; remember the bit about the burglars now too. Sorry to mislead everyone by saying it was a seventies programme, but then it's not the first time my memory has played tricks on me. Thanks all.
