Yeah Dr Who was designed to change all the time so it works a treat. Very clever of the original writers. It could go on forever.

Bring back old shows with a new cast? Nah - that's a silly idea. A show is only as good as its directors and actors/presenters. I agree you can get away with it with game shows - Larry Grayson's Generation Game was as good as Bruce Forsyth's. It's just a question of getting used to it. And yes, Reggie Perrin was recently remade with Martin Clunes. But if you remember the original show, it's never the same. Reggie Perrin was in, of and about the Seventies.

If there's one exception to that rule, it's Doctor Who - possibly the most successful revival in British television.

I agree with game shows you can get away with a new host, but for other programmes it is never the same if it has been re-cast, no matter how good the re-make is and new actors are. Things belong to a time and should stay as they are and they should put the energy into creating new things.

There have been plans for The Tripods to be remade as either a film series or for TV, but I'm not sure if it's still in development.

It's always very hard to recast a part after someone has made it popular, which often remakes have trouble with.

Personally I'm just happy with repeats, I'm still surprised how many oldies the BBC repeated from about 1988 to 1993 (Steptoe & Son, Some Mothers, Citizen Smith, Reggie Perrin, Butterflies etc), some of which were a dummy run for UK Gold.

Yes, as I remember it, Derek Batey would do part of quite a long run, and than they'd go to different studios and Alan Taylor would take over for a period. I'd forgotten about the Clary version.

Love these ideas. Although, did you know that there is a new Sapphire and Steel; it's an audio version.
And Dramarama! A reall good children's drama strand would be nice to have again.

and i doubt very much having a new cast say for rising damp would work.
because no matter who good they where it would be near impossible for them to match the original cast like richard beckinsale leonard rossitter etc.

but yes it is better leaving them alone not re doing them.
we have minder as an example.

I think some things are best left alone. If it ain't broke don't fix it, just watch the repeats or buy the DVD's.
IMO bringing them back with new cast members just wouldn't work, but thats just my opinion

They did remake The Minder with Gary Webster and also different actors have done Last of The Summer Wine case in point it doesn't work

I also think many a good Game show has been butchered by new presenters
I quite like Joe Pasquale but his The Price is Right was bobbins and as much as I like Phil and Fern watching their version of Mr and Mrs is like watching paint dry. Oh and dont get me started on Vernon Kay doing All New family Fourtunes!!
