Lord of the flies by william golding is one book that stayed with me from my childhood, it really sparked my imagination the idea of living unsupervised by adults on a desert island

I've not read it but it's a book that has managed to stay relevant. Apparently it was written as a critique of an older book where almost the opposite happens.

That's a really comprehensive blogg Jimmy, i used to read every evening with my three kids (now all adults) one daughter went on to become an english teacher my other is in advertising and my son does what you do!..i like to think that by regularly reading with and also to my kids that they took some inspiration when choosing there chosen career paths

The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster. We read this at primary school in maybe '71 or '72 and I then bought the 50th anniversary edition a few years ago, for pure nostalgia.

'The Gammage Cup'. I forget the author but I've always remembered the title and the basic story. I found it really absorbing at whatever age I was, probably around 11, wanted to go live in the book, but I was the same about Heidi and Charlotte's Web!

I should try and find it again.

This is a bit like Desert Island Discs, isn't it?

Difficult one, but I would choose something by Roald Dahl.
