  • Powdered Drinks

I've heard a few references to Lemonade Powder over the years but can't think of any current "just add water" style drinks in the UK.

Kool-Aid is an American one, often referenced in Family Guy (Oh Yeah!).

I'm not counting powdered milkshakes either.

Back in the 70's I remember there was some powdered drink available. It may have been a Lemonade. It seemed to be a short lived fad. Many people seemed to buy them one particular summer, then they disappeared.
Who cared about rules when you were young?

Many years ago, I lived in a very remote part of the Philippines, where the nearest store was about 5 hrs drive away. We used to stock up on powdered juice drinks called Eight O'clock. They did orange, pineapple, mango, lemon, even tea. A packet would give 8-10 litres of juice and they tasted great. Tried to find them when I returned to UK but never saw them. I never understood why powdered juice drinks didn't catch on in UK.

I was also wondering why they aren't around as an alternative to squashes, which while nice to drink aren't as portable.

I can remember buying orange-flavoured drinks in powder form in the 70s/80s. For some reason they didn't seem to catch on.

A previous poster mentioned powdered drinks in the Philippines. My wife and I have been there a number of times and Tang is a very popular brand of powdered drink there. There are orange, pineapple, mango flavours and probably more. They are sold in sachets, though may be available in other containers.

When I was a kid in the 1970's -1980's my Mum used to buy me Cremola Foam which was a lemonade powder to which you added water.

I also remember there being an orange flavour as well.

I'm going back to the 1950s and I remember being able to get powdered orange or lemonade, but I don't remember the make. Later in the 1960s, although not powered, you could buy a small carton of frozen concentrated orange juice. You diluted it by adding eight cartons of water. I liked it and can't really see why it isn't something that's available today.

Aldi sells tubes of tablets that you add to water to make a drink.

Cartons of concentrated orange juice that you mixed with water in a 1:3 ratio were on sale in the 1990s.
