  • Food you were brought up on.

Lemon curd sandwiches. When there was nothing left in the house to eat I had lemon curd on white bread. I couldn't eat them now as I hate the stuff.
Sugar Puffs straight from the box.
    Corned-beef ash (yuck).
Weetabix in hot milk before school on a cold day.

I remember my mum going throught the whole soya bean phase in the seventies.
Cheese and beetroot sandwiches, bannana cut in a bowl sprinkled with sugar, and jelly with ideal milk.

With the beetroot you used to get the additional enterainment value of the "who'll wee pink first" competition.

                  - banana sandwiches
                  - bananas in custard
                  - stuffed baked sheep's heart (my absolute favourite meal as a child)
                  - my mum's "creative" sandwiches for school lunch (cheese & walnut; date & apple; marmite & carrot)
                  - fish finger sandwiches
                  - baked apples with cream
                  - baked potatoes dripping with butter & cheese
                  - macaroni cheese with onions & ketchup
                  - amazing birthday cakes - one had jelly babies skiing down a mountain, another had a little house built with liquorice allsorts, and then there were the chocolate cakes decorated with real cream and walnuts...
                  - fritters - everything we could think of was dipped in batter & deep fried... apples and bananas were a favourite
                  - chinese takeaway (oh, those incredible mushrooms)
                  - yogurt straight from the freezer (before "frozen yogurt" became fashionable)
                  - tomatoes, chopped up, with grated cheese & chives - for breakfast
The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles. Darkness gathers. The demons begin to stir.

In our house we had kind of set nights ie,
                        monday was"fish night"
                        tuesday "pie night" (homemade)
                        Wednesday "lobby night"
                        Thursday "Banger n mash"
                        Friday "Pasta night"
Saturday Sheperds or cottage pie night ( not the same as tuesday NO pastry)
and of course Sunday Lunch, with Tea being sandwiches, yogurt or jelly and a peice of cake!

All could be mixed about a bit with either, chips, mash, jacket spud or salad
                        Nothing like routine!LOL

My nan use to give us marmite, served on a slice of cheese and apple.

When I was ill as a child I always remember my mam giving me "pobs" its was white bread in warm milk. I remember my dad making corned beef curry ....a whole tin of Fray Bentos corned meat and a tin of Homepride curry sauce. It was an aquired taste lol..
