actually on bank hoilidays we did go on an odd break to bangor portrush etc,
Sometimes it would be roasting and we would get ice creams and play in the sea.

sometimes we would aldo to the nans house we had a few nans and we would visit them in the same day.
have some tea and some lovely cakes which they baked. yummmy.

A lot of my bank holiday weekends when I was young seemed to be spent visiting relatives, or having them come round to us.

I dont really remember bank holidays as a kid, not even the excitement of an extra day off school
All bank holidays mean to me then and now are closed shops, rain and a James Bond film.

Pretty much this. The summers ones we'd sometimes go around to family and have a barbecue, but always top a family that didn't have toys or anything to keep a kid occupied. Plus they would always watch crappy T on the evening, something like a bank holiday special of some quiz show or something. I don't know, it was hard to pay attention to days like that. The only good thing about them was that you were allowed to stay up past Howards Way on Sunday. Maybe see some Phill Cool or some Smith and Jones.

I don't remember bank holidays from my childhood either. As a teenager though it was another matter. Bank Holiday Monday = going down Whitley Bay from about 2pm and drinking until 2am the following morning, then getting up after about an hours sleep for work/college. I'd like to say I enjoyed it but I never really did.

When I went into Town today to do some shopping etc, it had me thinking of Bank Holidays of yester-year, often they'd act as an exscuse for a Spring/Autumn Clean/Clear Out/go to a Car Boot Sale or find something out of everything I collect i'd not found in ages or do something not the norm, like (as I got older) go to a Country Pak or a big Shopping Mall.

All this seem's to not be so now for me I feel/think, I don't know why (I suppose the fast pace of life or may-be i've done all these thing's and got the T-Shirt). Still i'[ve got very fond memories of such day's - like at my Gran's - having Tea in the Afternoon, as we tret it similar to a Sunday etc and may-be had a Sandwhich then Trifle for Tea. I doubt these may happen again (though when i'm in my 50s/60s who know's). It would be great for any replies, if other members did similar etc.
