1980s series based on Raymond Chandler's short stories that starred Powers Boothe. Though set in the L.A. of the 1930s and 40s, the series was filmed in the UK with British actors doing American accents.
Just watched the pilot episode of Open All Hours (youtube) aired in March 1973...funny to see a different nurse Gladys Emanuelle, a young Keith Chegwin and a different Yootha Joyce to the one you know from MATH and G&M.

It's very different to the regular series, I think they used a different street as well.
IIRC it was made as part of a series of 1 off shows starring Ronnie Barker, another was the pilot to Porridge.
