Does anybody on here like them? Mud were one of my favourite childhood bands and I still like their music today. From their debut psychedelic rock anthem "Flower Power" to their New Wave-ish swansong "Drop Everything And Run" they ruled the UK charts from 1973 - 1977, and scored the best selling UK single in 1974 with "Tiger Feet", which was used in the film "In The Name Of The Father" and the Mr. Bean episode where he accidentally takes a baby to the fairground whilst holidaying at the seaside.

After they split in the early 80's, singer Les Gray went on to work the cabaret rock scene in the UK and Europe, drummer Dave Mount became a kitchen decor salesman, bassist Ray Stiles joined The Hollies and guitarist Rob Davis scored massive No.1 hits co-writing the songs "Groovejet" for Spiller and "Can't Get You Out Of My Mind" for Kylie Minogue, as well as being a record producer.

Sadly Les and Dave both died in 2004 and 2006 - Les from throat cancer, and Dave committed suicide. Ray and Rob recently reformed Mud with a couple of friends to support Ray's son Jack's band Mothership at the Fighting Cocks in Surrey where Mud originated from. They are becoming an in-demand act once again.....

Here are some songs from their glorious days:

Mud were the first live band I ever saw - think it was late 1973 or early 1974. They played at the Odeon in Birmingham. I'd have been twelve at the time. I still have several Mud albums on vinyl. I knew Les Gray had died - he looked very ill the last time he was on tv. Sad to hear about Dave Mount - he always appeared to be the cheeky chappie in the band. Did anyone see the film Mud appeared in with several other bands from the seventies - Never Too Young To Rock?

My two favourites. Mud certainly were good in their heyday.

Crazy was my favourite Mud record http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNh2h4i6UOg

Saw them in Blackpool c1974. Spent the whole gig sobbing and shouting to Rob that I loved him. I threw my bangle to him and he picked it up and put it on the end of his guitar. He was such a sweetie

                  Sad to hear about Dave.

Dave Mount was such a funny and fun loving guy, the prankster of the band!

I do a mean version (dancing included!) of Tiger Feet at karaoke!

Great singles band, the B-sides were terrible though...

                        Re: Mud

Recently I was given their greatest hits on CD. Some of the songs featured I hadn't heard before, but some hidden gems to be discovered. They did some quite good covers of Rock & Roll era songs.

I did read somewhere they were quite badly ripped off for money, like a few bands in the 1970s.

At their peack one member was still living in a council flat, but was being picked up each day in a limo!

Mud was my all-time favourite band as a kid in the 70s. What I loved about them, as well as their terrific music, was that they didn't take themselves seriously. They were a fun band. I still love their music and have great memories of them. I was in the fan club, posters all over my bedroom walls, the works 'Moonshine Sally', I think, was their best song, way under-rated. But, 'Tiger Feet', all the big hits, still get me off my bum and dancing now when I feel down! And 'Lonely This Christmas' still makes me cry ... they even added humour to that on their TOTP appearancesI can't think of a band to equal their personalities and humour since, apart from Madness.

Moonshine Sally was an interesting one - IIRC it was an old album track released as a Rak 45 to combat their new releases on Private Stock (L'L'L' Lucy et al)...

Great band/ I liked them a lot, but my brother was a real fan and still is. I got fed up with the late Les Grays' Elvis impressions though. What was that number one they had - no not the awful Lonely This Christmas - something about cats and crypts. Never mind I'll look it up later.

The saddest thing was when me and my brother saw them back in the 80's at a downbeat place called Silks in Thatcham (now gone I think). They did a terrible set to 25 people. Shame.
