I saw them the first time at the Factory in Mosside and was mesmerised by them. Hooky with his bass down round his knees, Steve Dale playing a couple of home made synth drums when they were virtually unheard of, Bernard on Guitar sitting on a chair with his back to the audience and this tall baby faced lanky guy with wild eyes looking out into nothing with a deep old man's voice. They seemed barely aware of the audience just living in their own world playing for themselves. The sounds they got out of their instruments, whilst commonplace now, were astounding for that time. Never heard the lyrics in the songs that night but I came away feeling very disturbed but still wanting more.
I never saw them live unfortunately. The first time I'd ever heard of Joy Division was on a Sunday evening youth group run by our church. A couple of the boys had been to see them , I think it might have been at The Marquee Club in Wardour Street but as ever my memory is somewhat unreliable.

Anyway, spent just under three quid at Our Price Records in The Charing Cross Road and bloody well glad I did!

Unknown Pleasures... what an album, sublime!

Joy Division were anything but joyful....New Dawn Fades is a track that still does the shudder thing as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah Geddy Lee's vocal are ok on their early stuff , like 2112 and Farewell to Kings, irritating later. I find Ian Anderson's voice boring at times. There are a lot of prog/metal bands that ruin their sound due to poor vocalists and this 'monster' vocal thing is creeping into this genre too.

Steve Tyler’s voice chills me. Aerosmith is one of the best bands. I grew up on their songs. And not only on their songs. Also I like Golden Earring very much.

It depends on what sort of song he is singing - sometimes it is a case of right singer, wrong song.

    • IN FACT A LOT OF MODERN SINGERS I DONT LIKE A LOT OF THEM NEED AUTO TUNE TO MAKE THEM SOUND GOOD.
Well, I would say that there are a lot of all kinds of trash among modern performers. Just a maximum of useless, pointless one-day performers.

Robbie Williams/Jimmy Osmond/Barry Manilow take yer pick and there's pretty more where that came from.

Alfie Boe is annoying as well.
