Have you noticed that a few advertisers are now looking back at their own '70s/'80s pasts?

Last year Lego ran a Tommy Cooper-voiced ad from the '70s, and NatWest are showing a bit of their old '80s advert with the singing porcelain pigs they made back then, tieing it in with their latest ad. Maltesers are at it as well, celebrating an anniversary with clips from some of their ads down the years.

Personally, I'm all for it. Can't wait for the next Lloyds TSB ad - 'The Bank that likes to say "Bring on the Black Horse!".'
"We're the Sweeney son, and we haven't had any dinner!"

I remember Smith & Jones joking that it was created by torturing a woman with a red hot poker.

McCain chips did a retrospective about 20 years ago, showing an old clip from the original oven chips ad. when these first came out in '79 with the 'McCain Chef' putting the chips in the oven. It was the intro. to an ad. for then (then) new micro chips, featuring the same chef being assisted by a gang of children.
Those old Natwest piggy-banks fetch a packet on the collectors market today- there were five of them, the youngest being the baby 'Woody' in a nappy. They were launched as part of a Young Savers scheme that Natwest were running at the time; the more your child put in as savings, the bigger the piggy-bank he got. You only needed to deposit a tenner to qualify for Woody, but £100 was needed to get Grandfather Natwest (the head of the family, in a pinstripe buisness suit).
The one product that hardly EVER has retrospectives done on them are cars- no manufacturer wants to boast of the virtues of previous models from earlier decades, which would just encourage people to go out and buy old classics rather than the latest modern models!! The only exceptions to this I've ever noticed were magazine and billboard ads rather than TV commercials- one was for Volvo, featuring the old Volvo Amazon as a means of showing how long Volvo's can last, and the other was when the Mini Cooper was re-launched in '89, which had an ad. done in retro. '60s comic book style.

There have been ads for Cadbury's Flake & Fairy Liquid that were montages of old ads.

Coco Pops did one of those after going back to the original name, they were called Choco Krispies for a short time.
Milkybar did one too a few years back.

Milky Way's "The red car & the blue car had a race" has been enjoying a comeback over the past year or so.

Aquafresh re-ran one of their 80's ads for a while a year or so ago. The one with the cartoon family in their pyjamas and the tune with the lyrics "three in one protection for your family".

Is that the one animated in the style of The Snowman?

I remember there were a few old ads shown in the late 1990s.

The 1970's Fry's Turkish Delight & Wrigley's Spearmint Gum were shown a lot.
