90's supernatural series

Hi,

In the 90's (I think), in the Uk I watched a tv series (made in US) about a group of gifted people who met at an older black mans house. They had abilities and fought "the darkness".
A Gifted young woman fought the darkness in a bedroom. She was more gifted than the elderly black man.
I think another character was a paramedic.

Had me stumped for years this one.
