  • Take The High Road

The Scottish tv soap that began in early 1980, I've been watching them from the first episode. I'd read it described as Emmerdale further north but to me it seems like Crossroads a bit more... the biggest nit I could pick is how so many people in the Highlands look like they've just been at a hairdressers including the men! It seems to be of it's time in that, no particularly wobbly sets however.

Anyone reading follow this show? The accents aren't at all thick to me, not like in say Gregory's Girl, I haven't had any worries understanding them.

I adore learning about your enduring relationship with the show! It's amazing how soap operas can both represent the times and capture the essence of their environment. Regarding the hairstyles, I concur that everyone in the Highlands appears prepared for a picture shoot!

Yes, it was Emmerdale in a kilt to be honest - was it Mrs Mack who ran the Post Office in the village?

It was shown around 6.30 pm after Scotland Today in Scotland, but mid-afternoon at around 3.00 pm south of the border.

I'm only up to episode 52 (just past the first year mark) and the Blair family is running the shop with a post office window in it.

The theme music is by Silly Wizard.

I used to assume that the shop was probably an inspiration for Mrs Goggins' Post Office in Postman Pat.
