Touche Turtle UK dub?

Animated, a series of “behind the scenes insights” on cartoons on Substack, recently released an essay on the Hanna-Barbera series Touche Turtle. It claims that in the mid-1960s, UK broadcasters (think it’s referring to the BBC) redubbed and rewrote it to appeal more to a British audience. Stephen Fry praised it as “innocent yet delightfully witty” and it was apparently repeated well into the early 1980s.

Have not found any other info regarding this, and unfortunately the BBC Programme Index does not state which version was aired. Does anyone remember Touche speaking with “British idioms and humour”?

That’s an intriguing bit of animation history! I haven’t come across much concrete evidence of a UK-specific redub of Touché Turtle, but it wouldn’t be surprising if some tweaks were made for British audiences, especially in that era. Shows like The Magic Roundabout had famously different scripts depending on the country.

I can't think of any American cartoon having British redub! Occasionally it happens the other way round!
