Re: what tv programmes should be brought back.

I'm going to be honest I watch the older programs as they are classics and I don't feel they can be replicated in any way. Currently watching 'Are you being served' and I can't work out how they would go about remaking it... ? The characters are unique to the actors and as such anyone new would face a daunting task.

They tried and it flopped bigtime with only one episode aired..

      2016 revival
In 2016, a one-off revival episode was broadcast, as part of BBC's Landmark Sitcom Season, a celebration of 60 years of television sitcoms.[19] It was set in 1988 with the original characters, played by a new cast.

Captain Peacock was played by John Challis, Mrs Slocombe by Sherrie Hewson, Mr Humphries by Jason Watkins, Miss Brahms by Niky Wardley, Mr Grainger by Roy Barraclough (Grainger having come out of retirement "To spend less time with his wife"), Mr Harman by Arthur Smith, and Mr Rumbold by Justin Edwards.[20][21] New characters in the show were Young Mr Grace's grandson – also called Young Mr Grace – played by Mathew Horne, Miss Croft – named as a tribute to series co-creator David Croft – played by Jorgie Porter, and newcomer Mr Conway, played by Kayode Ewumi. The episode was written by Derren Litten. The BBC issued a press release saying: "It's 1988 and Young Mr Grace is determined to drag Grace Brothers into, well 1988, but he has a problem on his hands. Mr Humphries, Captain Peacock, Mr Rumbold and Mrs Slocombe all seem to be stuck in another era. A new member of staff, Mr Conway, joins the team but will he help shake things up or will he just put a ***** amongst the pigeons?"[19]

The episode was aired in August 2016 to universally poor reviews for both the writing and the acting.[22][23][24] No further episodes were commissioned.

Re: what tv programmes should be brought back.

On the subject of Are You Being Served, has the Australian version of the sitcom ever been seen here in Great Britain? Did the BBC show it and viewers thought at the time that it was a British episode scheduled? Even the soundtrack of one episode was heard in a PCBH episode - the one where Joan Ferguson was feeling morose and miserable, and went out to meet Andrew Hinton, leaving the TV set on where one can hear Inman's voice as Mr Humphries. A character like Humphries would be more akin to a Little Britain stereotype in the early 21st century.

Regarding Some Mothers, there was a national tour this year of a theatre version of the sitcom with Joe Pasquale of all people playing Spencer! And to think that Ronnie Barker was one choice for the role before it was offered to Crawford.

I have a feeling that if You Bet! did return, then someone like Stephen Mulhern would obviously present it - that series Go For It! seen a couple of years ago was in the similar vein as You Bet! The big question is, who is the equivalent of the Bruce Forsyth of the 21st century? The problem is that today's celebrities in light entertainment lack character identity that their predecessors had back in the 1970s and 1980s.

When all night tv first started the itv regions had different programs through the wee small hours, i would like to see a return to this, at the moment gambling runs till 2.00 am , Kyles show repeats at 5.00 till gmb at 6.00am not much in between, in Scotland they sometimes have a live show during the night which not many know about and its proving quite popular, would love to see the regions do their own thing between 2.00am and 6.00, perhaps delving in to the archives, copyright permitting, or a live light hearted chat show, its the only time of day that is not exploited, mornings pull in a million with This morning afternoons are taken care of by Judge rinder and Dickenson tea times by Tipping point and The chase, the breakfast battle for viewers by the big 2 networks, Channel 4 threw in the towel ages ago, so the only slot left is the 2.till 6. i am sure some thing like the Scots have tried would be good and competitive.

+1 for You Bet! ...and, I think a good presenter/host would be Richard Ayoade, he's been good on the recent Crystal Maze

Yes - Prisoner: Cell Block H would be one series that should be brought back for the nighttime schedules like in the early 1990s. As I said before, the series Wentworth that Channel 5 has shown in recent years is no patch on the original PCBH. Also, the pub quiz show Quiz Night would be great as well - the desks resembled the bar in pubs with pint pullers on the desks.

I remember this being a decent replacement for the Tube & being competition for Later With Jools Holland, but it didn't run for too long.

Not keen to see a remake but Is love for the original twilight zone to be shown on TV again.
