      I had two family holidays in France where were drove there & back, using a ferry because the Channel Tunnel wasn't yet open.

          Just come back from a cruise from Southampton to the Norwegian fjords and back.
          North Sea was pretty rough (the shipping forecast did say gale force 9 to very strong storm force 10, and my wife felt seasick.
          If we'd been flying though, I guess turbulence might have been just as bad (but not as long lasting).
