  • Beamish, anybody been?

Between Newcastle and Durham there's a park with different eras represented in separate areas, but they are all connected via vintage buses, trams and trains! You can also buy items at the confectionery, fish n' chip, pub, bakery etc. Looked like a great place from a video someone made of just one day there. Durham itself also looks quite attractive as well. Would love to go, well... maybe someday. Hoo nose.

I've been there a few times, but not for a few years.

They've opened a 1950s town area since then I think. In nice weather they're probably busier. I think the Emmerdale set must be not so far off either (maybe see the real star, Minty the lamb?).

I’m local and have been a long time ago, would love to visit and see the new 1950s street

I go a few times a year being local to it. The 1950s town is excellent, a lot of the exhibits in the houses look very familiar to someone brought up in the 70s as my parents and grandparents had the same things. The 50s town isn't quite complete yet so there's more to come.

I think the 1950s part has been built since I last visited, the newest looking houses looked 1920s at the latest.

I haven't been to Beamish myself (or at least I don't remember going there), but I know that my sister went there in around the mid to late 1980s.

Beamish first was opened back in 1970 apparently. It was awarded museum of the year status in 1986.

There are some excellent videos made by people visiting the new '50s areas. I saw a tour of the shops, and another by the same lady of four of the houses... saw lots of things in those that reminded me of things in my grandparents' home!

Have been twice, 1st in 2005 and then last Summer (which by some shear horror just happened to fall after the weekend of the Middlesbrough and Sunderland Riots up there) and imagining we would be walking into a War Zone like in Irag or Syria or somewhere - but thankfully it was all just about calmed down by the Monday I got there and nothing got cancelled thankfully as the North East is a place I have been but not often or on an intensive Tour/Exploration since 2019 prior to this - as it is such a beautiful gorgeous part of England.

I am unsure I would quite describe it how you have though beccabear67 (even though it has Parks), it is good but not sure I would pay at the gate for it as my visit was part of a Tour with Price included in the Holiday/Tour Price

As I say it is good .... but worth the Money on the gate, I doubt it ... unless your totally dedicated to admiring every single aspect/nut and cranny of the place as it entails much walking - even if on Vintage Vechiles or not and you need to be good on your feet imho and have good weather to boot

The gate price actually gives you a year of unlimited entry so as a local it's well worth the money. As a tourist doing a one off visit I agree it's a steep price but there's more than enough to keep you occupied for a full day.

That is interesting to know, but I don't know if I would just go as a Day Visitor either but we knew when we went on the Tour it was included (though not on that actual day), but it was good to compare it to my last visit 19 years back (or as it was in 2024)
