  • 80's songs you never hear on the radio these days

As an extension of an excellent previous post I thought I would post my contribution as I get so fed up with certain radio stations who have a "Haven't heard it lately" slot and then they go and play a song that is frequently heard on the air-waves.....makes me seeth!! The following were all Top 20 hits and in my opinion excellent tunes but you never hear them these days and some are not available on Spotify/I-Tunes:

"Something in my house" Dead or Alive 1987
    "Murphy's Law" Cheri 1982
    "Drowning in Berlin" Mobiles 1982
    "Wasteland" The Mission 1987
    "The Walk" The Cure 1983
    "The Freeze" Spandau Ballet 1981
"Strange Little Girl" The Stranglers 1982
"Money Go Round" Style Council 1983
    "Since Yesterday" Strawberry Switchblade 1984
"Don't Mess with Doctor Dream" Thompson Twins 1985
    "Could've Been" Tiffany 1988
"Twist in my Sobriety" Tanita Tikaram 1988
"The Other Side of Love" Yazoo 1982
    "I've been losing you" A-HA 1986
"Where were you hiding when the storm broke?" The Alarm 1984
"Just a Feeling" Bad Manners 1981
"Do they know it's Christmas?" Band Aid II 1989
    "Chance" Big Country 1983
"Hit that Perfect Beat" Bronski Beat 1985
    "Army Dreamers" Kate Bush 1980
    "Christian" China Crisis 1983
"Is it a dream?" Classix Nouveaux 1982
"My own Way" Duran Duran 1981
"Mind of a Toy" Visage 1981
    "Chequered Love" Kim Wilde 1981
"Why do Lovers Break each others' Hearts?" Showaddywaddy 1980
    "Substitute" Liquid Gold 1980

I guess there are many really unless you listen to a dedicated 1980s Station. Heart Radio is good for this I find, but has 1970s songs too. A few I can recall not hearing on the Radio recently are

                      Billy Joel - Uptown Girl
Tears For fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World
                      Ultravox - Vienna
A lot by Bannarama including Nathan Jones, Venus, Love In The First Degree
Dusty Springfield Featuring the Pet Shop Boys - In Private
Sa Fox - I Only Wanna Be With You

This is very much a pitty I think. Thankfully the 1980s had all this with artists recording lesser known songs being instantly remembered I when heard (even if they never managed the top 5/10 in the Charts) I feel/think

                          Brother Louie - Modern Talking

This had lots of airplay when it was out but very little afterwards.

I'm still wondering what "sem-alem-achu-mi" actually was.

One which was all over the radio and the telly in 1983 was 'La Serenissima' by Rondo Veneziano - this was the tune with the animated video of a classical orchestra with featureless chrome faces and Venice being rescued from the sea by a spacecraft. It didn't do great business in the charts at the time though, despite all of the publicity.
