Re: 80's songs you never hear on the radio these days
I was watching TOTP from 1983 the other day, one song featured was one I remember hearing but couldn't out a name to.
It was Dolce Vita by Ryan Paris, I had assumed for years it was by Howard Jones or one of the other "keyboard wizards" from the early - mid 1980s.
It wasn't surprising to find Ryan Paris was a one hit wonder, but I was surprised to find he was Italian, especially as some of his singing was in a cockneyish accent.
I was quite surprised to be woken up by Holly Johnson's Americanos on Radio 2 jusr before 7am.
When I hear that song, I often think of 1989 and things such as Bermuda shorts, as I mentioned in my fashion thread.
I've everything I need to keep me satisfied
There's nothing you can do to make me change my mind
I'm having so much fun
My lucky number's one
Ah! Oh! Ah! Oh!
Re: 80's songs you never hear on the radio these days
I am listening to BBC Radio Gloucestershire online, and they have played Brown Girl in the Ring by Boney M - the B-side to Rivers of Babylon - I can't remember the last time when any radio station played that.
The story goes that back in 1978 a DJ was supposed to play Rivers of Babylon, but had played the B side by mistake, and the listeners loved the song so much that it was lusted as a double A side and the song shot right back up the charts and remained there until the end of the year, a total of 40 weeks.
Yesterday, I was listening to another radio station online, and they had played this week's chart from 1980, including Embarrassment by Madness and Banana Republic by the Boomtown Rats.

Just realised that it says 1980s songs - never mind.
