Not normally a fan of covers, but I reckon Disturbed absolutely nailed the Sound of Silence:

Also, some songs were "covered" before the original artist sang them!

Both Sides, Now - Judy Collins recorded her version before Joni Mitchell did
Heart On MY Sleeve - "Extended Play" by Bryan Ferry featured 4 songs which were supposedly covers but, on the notes on the sleeve, it says he recorded this before Gallagher & Lyle did!
Handbags & Gladrags - Mike D'Abo (of Manfred Mann fame) wrote it but recorded it later, as an album track, after Chris Farlowe

    There are others...

I knew that "I Fought the Law" by the Clash was a cover of a Bobby Fuller Four song, but I only recently found out that that version was also a cover, of a Crickets song!

Just to be clear George i love the Beatles and ofcourse Lennon and Mccartney wrote a huge number of original songs but as you can see they recorded a ton of songs by other artists particularly in there earlier years.

The Wonder of you, I thought Elvis Presley sang the original, only found out it was a cover (that had also been covered before his release a few times) earlier this year!
