I'm unsure how chip shop pies have changed over the decades because I have never bought one. How common are fried pies?

Another tricky find is cod roe that seems to have fallen in popularity.

I'm under the impression that traditional fish and chip shops are declining in popularity with younger people. In my locality chicken and chip shops and kebab shops are more popular. Traditional thick chips are increasingly superseded by thin French fries.

I only remember fish, wedge type chips and brown malt vinegar at the shop my grandmother worked at. No pies and I don't think there were mushy peas. They had some kind of coleslaw stuff though, in a little paper cup like with tartar sauce.

Have any chip shops ever sold poutine? Or is it something only found in Canada?

For the first time in ages on Friday I had fish & chips from a chip shop, bought as a treat by my wife as she needed to go to some nearby shop to get a lottery ticket & decided to go to the chip shop next door.
