The prawn cocktail ones were this kinda colour and the salt and vinegar ones were blueish green.
    Its driving me crazy! Lol
I remember these! I can't for the life of me remember what they were called or find any reference to them on the web but they were in a packet that was designed to look like newspaper and they were 'chip shop' crisps. Yes there were salt and vinegar but my favourites were the chip shop curry sauce flavour. I think this is what you remember as the prawn cocktail ones.

They were made of maize/potato just like chipsticks to look like chips and had the chip shop flavours. Now it's driving me crazy not being able to remember what they were called. I have often wondered over the years. I always used to buy a packet on the way home after school at the bus stop.

On a acompletely different note, does anyone remember 'Sey Shells?' They were made to be 'exotic' haha and were of all things lemon sole flavour. I kid you not. They were little reformed potato shells with bumps down them - like the pasta shells you get.

My mum loved them and I must admit I did too!

XL Crisps were manufactured about 1955, by the Gaffney family. The factory was situated

at Doncaster Rd, Conisborough, Doncaster UK.

They sold out to ABF Foods abouy 1960 and production moved over to Lancashire.

Forgive me if someone has already posted this.
I remember way back in the late 50's when Smiths brought out Oxo flavoured crisps. They didn't catch on so they fizzled out.
Packets of crisps then had a little blue bag of salt inside them which you shook onto the crisps or not depending on your taste.
