Hope you don't mind me asking does this book (The Great British Tuckshop) mention chocs/sweets from 70/80/90's? Is it more picture based or do they write about the chocolate? Is the Banjo by Mars in it?

Yes, I would probably agree with that, not exactly the same as Bitz, but the closest thing you can get in the UK.

Definitely remember the Bitz bars myself and absolutely LOVED them when they were last around !! Don`t you think that the Matchmakers available today (in the Orange and Mint flavours) are just the old Bitz bars divided up into little sticks ?!?!?!?! ......... they are definitely the closest thing to the Bitz which is available today !! ...... and the Mint ones are ALWAYS on my Christmas List !!! Leaving all of this to one side, though, my absolute favourite sweet of all-time has to be the crisp, papery, sherbetty Flying Saucer and I bought a HUGE drum full all for myself recently from a site I found which specialises in retro sweets.

Yes I remember mint maltesers! I sent an email to the malteser web site for information on them but they only confirmed that they sold them in the 60s.

    Re: Defunct sweets?

Thats the sweets I was trying to recall the other day that were simular to double agents. They were called mummies.I can remember the creepy stories on the inside of the wrapper and used to collect them at one stage.I think I must of broke more then one tooth on them, and can recall a few visits to the dentist as I used to crunch the things which were like bullets. But when you got into them the centers were sort of soft depending on how long you sucked the things before crunching them.I think it must of been sometime around 1979-1981 that I had this thing for mummies.Don't remember them at all after that time.
