    Re: Crisps

I was born in the mid-1950's and remember there only being one type of crisp - Smiths ready salted in a greaseproof paper bag with the little blue paper twist of salt inside. They tasted sublime! When I was about 8 (early 1960's) Smith's brought out Salt n Vinegar Cheese n Onion and Smoky Bacon and the bags were plastic. I think Bovril and Chicken came next - and then Golden Wonder started producing crisps and us kids swapped from Smiths because Golden Wonder were more trendy! When I went outdoor swimming with the school (freezing!) my mum would pack me a little thermos of oxo in hot water, a spam sandwich (or dairylea if she was feeling flush!) and a bag of Golden Wonder bacon crisps! All the flavours were very distinct and we all had our favourites - nowadays all the flavours taste the same to me!

this was before my time but i love the sound of it.
the closest most of us will get to actually having the real things.

sadly the munich games are remembered for the wrong reasons.
Yes, I managed to get the full set, me and my mates used to organise our own mini olympics to compete for the medals. Happy days.

I remember my Mum used to get Ryley's (or Riley's) crisps from our local greengrocers. The packets had a sort of cartoon Mr Potatohead mascot on it.

I used to love murphys and ryleys crisps (sooner foods).not just because we were made in same town.
